Successful Texas Two-StepThe inaugural BFGoodrich SCCA Super Tour was held this weekend at the Texas World Speedway. The Double National offered plenty of excitement. The first race on Saturday included some adverse weather.

“I finished second in the first race,” Hasa Driver Mike Anderson commented. “It rained in the middle of the race, made things exciting.”

The second race of the Texas Two-Step Double National-hosted by the Lone Star Region-was held under sunny skies.

Eleven Formula Mazda race cars were scheduled to take the green flag. However, polesitter and defending National Champion Darryl Wills had his car on the grid, but was left there with mechanical difficulties and didn’t make the start. Anderson, who had qualified second, finished the race as its winner.

“Qualifying was the first time I really got a good run on the track with new tires. The track conditions were perfect and my teammate Darryl Wills and I both qualified under the track record with only .06 sec separating us.” Anderson reported.

“Unfortunately when we were on the grid for the race Darryl’s car would not start. I was disappointed to roll off grid leaving him behind. Alan McCallum would be starting only a few spots behind me on the grid, we got a good start and I maintained the FM lead with Allan pressuring me for the first few laps. I was able to open up a small lead on Alan. This track is really hard on tires and I could feel them going away as we neared the halfway point. Alan was able to draw in on my lead, so I decided it was time to stop saving the tires and start pushing hard again and start working my way through traffic. I was happy to see when the starter was showing one lap to go, the tires were vibrating from the extreme wear. I kept pushing as there was a lot of traffic late in the race and brought home the win.”

Mike wanted to add a “big thank you to Hillenburg Motorsports and Darryl Wills for inviting him to come drive for them and to his sponsor HASA.” It was a great weekend in Texas!
